CrossFit
CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more.
I began CrossFit three years ago with simply joining a CrossFit gym (often referred to as a "box"). Coming from a background of dancing all my life, doing a sport like CrossFit was completely out of my comfort zone; and definitely intimidating. Before moving to Germany, I had to get a physical exam done to ensure that I was healthy enough to move. However, my results came back and I was told by doctors that I obtained muscle deficiency and I needed to fix it fast. At the time my older brother was using CrossFit to supplement his wrestling, and my mother was doing it to stay healthy. After a whole lot of convincing and pep talks, I decided to try it out. The first day I tried it, I immediately fell in love with the challenge, empowerment, and community. It was a style of fitness that I had never encountered, but couldn't get enough of. I moved to Germany and made the decision to quit dance, and put my time and energy into CrossFit instead. I started off taking regular classes, but as I progressed I decided that I wanted more. As a result, I started to compete in competitions and train off of a program that is a rigorous training regimen built for competitors. I have been using CrossFit as my main source of fitness and have never looked back since.

To track my training, I use an app called "Beyond the Whiteboard". It records my score for each workout, and shows the the average score of everyone else at my gym who uses the same app. It also has a calendar that gives me a visual to show me how often I have logged in and completed my workouts. The calendar holds me accountable to execute my goal of training three times a week.
Girls Rugby
I have always loved rugby, as my brother plays rugby and many of my coaches and teachers come from a background of rugby. Starting in 2016, another student and I have been in the process of starting up a girls rugby team for our school. It took a lot of time and effort to be able to make it happen. We had countless meetings with school officials, and were constantly taking steps to create a girls rugby team from ground zero. After a lot of hard work, we were able to get a trial run in the fall. We met weekly and played a game of touch with the boys during what they considered their pre-season. After a regular turn-up that proved the commitment of the girls, a coach has been hired to further develop our skills throughout the winter. We meet once a week, and consider this our pre-season. In the spring of 2018, we will meet twice a week with the hope of having a few matches and possibly host a tournament at our school.
